Motorola made a big splash in the Android market with the release of the Moto X. The Motorola flagship offered a near-
stock Android
experience with some very unique features and a plethora of ways to
customize the device. Now that we’re officially in the summer, we want
to take a look at what we can expect from the successor of the Moto X.
Release Window
We
know that Motorola is going to release the Moto 360 sometime in the
summer. At MWC 2014, we also learned that the summer was the release
window for the Moto X+1 as well. We feel that Motorola is waiting until
both devices are ready before doing a major announcement. It’s also
being speculated that Motorola is going to be selling both of these in a
bundle with a small discount. There’s only a couple months of summer
left, so we expect to see Motorola hosting a launch or announcement
event very soon.
Price Range
The Moto X cost a lot of
money when it was first released. If you compared hardware specs with
other devices in the same price range, it was clear that the Moto X
wasn’t the most cost efficient device on the market. A store page was
accidentally published not too long ago that suggests the Moto X+1 could
be priced at $400 when it’s released. Whether or not the price
mentioned on this page was real or simply just a placeholder, has yet to
be determined.
Specs
The hardware specifications of the
Moto X+1 is really what everyone is wanting to know. We expect Motorola
to upgrade from a 720p AMOLED display to a 1080p one, but that’s about
all we know for certain. If we were to guess, we feel that Motorola will
pick the Qualcomm
Snapdragon 800 SoC and 2 GB of on-board RAM. Things like battery capacity,
screen size and even the weight is still unknown.
